The turkey box caller is my call of choice. It is the classic turkey call made from of a variety of woods. Many box callers crafted by some of the best call makers are prized by collectors and extremely valuable. The different types of woods used to make callers are endless. The most common woods used to construct a box call are cherry, mahogany, cedar, walnut, oak and poplar. Many other exotic woods like purple heart, sassafras, osage orange, bocote, butternut, pacific yew and teak. Trial and error is the only way to discover if a wood will work as a box caller. After a wood is selected it must have tight grains and be extremely dry. I have found the older and drier the wood the better. Many custom call makers salvage their woods from old furniture. I like to obtain wood for calls from unique things and or places. This page is for custom call makers to display pictures of their finest turkey callers. These callers were crafted by Bill Baublit of Janesville, Ca. Bill is relatively new to the call making business, but not to turkey hunting with 28 years experience under his belt. His calls have a unique shape and he offers several wood combinations. Very nice work Bill!

Walnut paddle and box with fine checkering on the paddle and box. Walnut is my personal favorite because of the clear crisp two tone sound of the yelp.
Walnut coarse checkered paddle with a plain poplar box. This box call gives a real nice yelp with a little rasp.
Purple heart box call with coarse checkering on the paddle. It is a hard wood from South America with a mellow tone.
