GUNS AND AMMO:

03-23-2007 matte black synthetic Stoeger P-350 12 ga 2 3/4"- 3 1/2", 26" barrel, extended turkey choke.

Stoeger is a division of Benelli and the P-350 has a striking resemblance to the Benelli Nova.  I chose the Stoeger because it is a
pump action, relatively light at 6.8 lbs and has a standard pull at 14 1/2", that fits my 5'10" 200 lbs son well. The price is very
reasonable too. The matte black finish retails in the upper $200 range and the camouflage finish in the lower $300 range. I stole this
gun off of Auction Arms for $175 new. The gun does has a cheap feel to it primarily because of plastics used in its construction. The
action is a little tight and rough during the pump, but should loosen up with use.  The gun came with all the needed hunting choke
tubes along with an extra full turkey choke. I patterned the gun at 40 yards using the stock orange fiber optic style sight bead, the
extra full choke and  Federal premier 3" magnum loaded with #5 shot. Needless to say it put enough holes in the paper target to
drop any old gobbler within 30 yards. So far I am happy with this purchase. We will see how the gun is holding up after a few hunts
with my son who manages to break about anything he can get his hands on.

TAXIDERMY:

I have received my spring 2007 Eastern and Goulds mounts back from award winning taxidermist Andy Campbell at Look Alive
Taxidermy. The turkeys look spectacular. Andy did an awesome job with their head painting details and the poses are true to Turkey
form. The turn around time of approximately 3.5 months and the cost $500.00 plus shipping can not be beat for the quality of work. I
was a little wary with shipping the mounts, but I can assure you Andy has it down to a science and the turkey's arrived to my house
in the same pristine condition they were in when they left Andy's shop. Check out Andy's web site on the links page.

Primos Turkey Strap Vest:

This being my first season hunting turkeys I was really amp’d to see what calls and cool new toys I was going to need to do this.
When all the price tags started adding up I backed up a little.  I stared prioritizing what is really needed as oppose to every little
thing I wanted.  I got a slate, some mouth calls and a box call, all the basics.  Well after all of that I realized that this would all be
going out into the woods with me and I had know idea how I was going to carry it all.  It didn't take long for me to stumble on to the
world of turkey vests.  With so many options it was a little overwhelming to choose until I noticed that my "Freak" style slate would
only fit into a Primos brand vest and with the budget shrinking I quickly found the cheapest Primos vest, the Strap Turkey Vest.  The
vest at first seemed to fit really loose but considering it was a med/large I figured that there must be some reason for the huge size
that I did not understand due to my lack of experience so I bought it.  There is a huge amount of separated storage in every place
you can imagine.  On the front there is a pocket with a elastic cord to hold your box call quietly while on the move, 2 Pockets to hold
slates, still the "Freak" barely fits but it works. The flap style pockets on the front of the vest hold my strikers, shells, crow call and
"Slick Stick".  There is a game bag on the back and a removable sit to keep your rear dry when sitting in that dew covered grass.
The biggest upside is that everything is instantly accessible without having to dig around in a bag, less digging equals more quiet,
The vest wears really well and can be loaded up to carry a ton of gear.  The only thing I think I would improve is I would have some
waterproof storage somewhere but nothing is perfect.  I paid 40 bucks for mine but I saw them on wingsupply.com for about 25 I
think, it may be worth checking out.  I am happy with my vest; it performed great for my first time out.
